Volleyball Recap: Westlake Wins High-Profile Match Against Lehi

Westlake faced Lehi in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. The Thunder narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Pioneers 3-2. The Thunder haven't had any issues with the Pioneers recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Westlake was staring down a 2-1 deficit headed into the fourth set, but they rallied to take the next two for the win. The match finished with set scores of 29-27, 22-25, 20-25, 25-19, 16-14.

Kilika Tafa paced Westlake's offense, picking up 19 kills. Tafa got some help from Keagan Cundiff and his 43 assists.

Despite the defeat, Lehi saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Ty Reynolds had 66 assists and 12 digs. Those 66 assists set a new season-high mark for Reynolds. Tyler Olson also deserves some recognition as he served his first ace of the season.

Westlake's victory bumped their record up to 13-5. As for Lehi, their loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 11-2.

Westlake has already played their next matchup, a 3-0 win against Pleasant Grove on the 10th. As for Lehi, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 3-0 victory against Lone Peak on the 10th.
