Volleyball Recap: Freedom Patriots vs. Wharton Wildcats
If Freedom was riding high fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Hillsborough on Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Patriots lost 3-0 to the Wharton Wildcats on Monday. It was the first time this season that the Patriots let down their fans at home.
While Freedom was not able to make it on the board, they still kept things close, especially in the first set. The match finished with set scores of 25-23, 25-14, 25-12.
Naya Daniels paced Freedom's offense, picking up seven kills. Daniels got some help from Katie Kurtz and her 12 assists. Averi Addison controlled things from the service line, finishing with four aces.
Leading Wharton to victory were Lauren Galfond and Zoe Ananga. Galfond had 21 assists and eight digs, while Ananga had nine assists and two aces. That's the most assists Ananga has posted over her last three matchups. Victoria Colon also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.
The loss was their first at home , dropping their record down to 9-3. As for Wharton, they now have a winning record of 8-7.
Looking ahead, Freedom will host Spoto at 6:30 p.m. on October 8. As for Wharton, they will head out on the road to face off against Bloomingdale at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bulls will roll in looking for their seventh straight victory, something the Wildcats surely won't give up without a fight.
