Basketball Game Preview: Girard College Cavaliers vs. Friends Select

The Girard College Cavaliers and Friends Select will round out the year against one another at at 12:00 p.m. on Monday. Girard College is coming into the contest on a four-game losing streak.

Girard College is headed into the matchup out to prove that what happened against Germantown Friends on Saturday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Girard College had to suffer through a 86-44 loss at the hands of Germantown Friends. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Cavaliers came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 27th, while Germantown Friends are ranked 296th).

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Abdul-Raheem Devlin, who posted 16 points and six boards. Those 16 points gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Amadu Mansaray, who put up nine points.

Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Friends Select's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They fell just short of Haverford School by a score of 63-61.

Friends Select now has a losing record at 6-7. As for Girard College, their loss dropped their record down to 1-8.

Girard College took a serious blow against Friends Select in their previous matchup back in December of 2022, falling 79-24. That contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point Girard College was down 51-16.
