Recap: Yuma Criminals vs. Mohave Thunderbirds
The Yuma Criminals had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Monday. They breezed by Mohave at home to the tune of 72-35. Winning is a bit easier when you work as a team to rack up 16 more assists than your opponent, as Yuma did.
Nick Amador had a dynamite game for Yuma, scoring 23 points along with 8 rebounds and 6 assists. That makes it two consecutive games in which Amador has scored at least 25% of Yuma's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Estevan Moreno, who scored 20 points along with 4 steals.
When it comes to explaining why Mohave lost, one person who can't be blamed is Mikenzie Parks. Despite the final result, he scored 9 points. Another player making a difference was Pedro Marentes, who scored 5 points.
Yuma has yet to lose a contest at home this season, leaving them with a 3-0 record. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.3 points per game. As for Mohave, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-3.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Yuma will play host again and welcome San Luis, where tip off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. San Luis comes in still looking for their first win of the season. As for Mohave, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Lake Havasu at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Lake Havasu is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
