Basketball Recap: Weldon Chargers vs. Wilson Prep Tigers

Weldon was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They took a blow against the Wilson Prep Tigers, falling 87-43. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Tigers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 97-35 back in January.

Wilson Prep's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Elijah Newsome, who went 7 for 14 en route to 22 points and three steals. Newsome is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 45% in the last nine games he's played. Donovan Dickens was another key player, going 5 of 8 to rack up 15 points along with five boards and three steals.

Weldon's defeat dropped their record down to 2-13. As for Wilson Prep, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 14-4.

Coming up, Weldon will face off against Rocky Mount Prep at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Rocky Mount Prep knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past ten matchups -- so hopefully Weldon likes a good challenge. As for Wilson Prep, they have already played their next game, a 107-70 victory against Northwest Halifax on the 8th.
