Basketball Recap: Newfane Comes Up Short

If Newfane was feeling good fresh off their 60-37 takedown of Barker last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Newfane Panthers lost 56-33 to the Wilson Lakemen on Tuesday. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Panthers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 40-28 on January 3rd.

When it comes to explaining why Newfane lost, don't look at Mac Capen. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 17 points and 12 rebounds. Capen is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last seven games he's played. Another player making a difference was Miles Czekaj, who posted six points.

Even though they lost, Newfane smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive rebounds in three consecutive matches.

Newfane's loss dropped their record down to 4-9. As for Wilson, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 5-1.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Newfane has already played their next contest (against Kendall), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Wilson will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Barker at 6:00 p.m. on February 7th.
