Basketball Game Preview: Maywood CES Wolfpack vs. Marquez Gladiators

Maywood CES hasn't had much luck against Marquez recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Maywood CES Wolfpack will head out to take on the Marquez Gladiators at 4:00 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Maywood CES is headed into Wednesday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their ninth straight game dating back to last season on Thursday. They came up short against Maywood Academy, falling 62-37.

Meanwhile, Marquez unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Monday. They took a 55-47 hit to the loss column at the hands of Walnut. While losing is never fun, the Gladiators can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 641st, while the Mustangs are ranked 223rd).

Maywood CES will have to keep a close watch on Cravon Charles and Elyjah Staples, a pair of players who had a big impact on Marquez's prior game. Charles went 7 of 13 on his way to 15 points and eight boards, while Staples went 7 for 9 en route to 17 points and seven rebounds.

Marquez now has a losing record at 8-9-1. As for Maywood CES, their loss dropped their record down to 0-7.

Maywood CES took a serious blow against Marquez in their previous meeting back in January of 2024, falling 92-27. Thankfully for Maywood CES, Lamont White Jr (who went 10 for 17 on his way to 24 points in addition to eight assists and five rebounds) won't be suiting up this time.
