Baseball Recap: Columbus Comes Up Short

After soaring to 12 runs the game before, Columbus was a bit more limited in their matchup on Wednesday. They fell just short of the Hialeah Educational Academy Biggie by a score of 2-1. The Explorers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Biggie apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Samuel Alonso was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out ten batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits. Those ten strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

On the hitting side, Mario Magana was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one double, and one RBI.

Columbus' defeat dropped their record down to 10-3. As for Hialeah Educational Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a massive bump to their 5-6 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Columbus will host Southridge at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Columbus' pitching crew has only allowed two runs per game this season, so Southridge's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Hialeah Educational Academy, they will be playing at home against Florida Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The last three games Hialeah Educational Academy has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
