Football Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Sanger

Sanger extended their winning streak to three games thanks to a huge performance from Reginald Jones. The Indians took their contest on Friday with ease, bagging a 73-23 win over the Van Alstyne Panthers with plenty of help from Jones, who rushed for 336 yards and four scores while picking up 16.0 yards per carry. Jones is crushing it when it comes to rushing yards: he's rushed for at least 120 every time he's taken the field this season.

The team also got some help courtesy of Reed Sebastian, who threw for 304 yards and three TDs while completing 73.9% of his passes. His passing game has become a key predictor of Sanger's success: the team is undefeated when his passer rating is 110 or higher, but only 1-2 otherwise.

One reason for the win was Sanger's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: JJ Mikas, Joshua Lindsey, and Dezmond Sampson, who each picked up one sack apiece. Sanger received some extra help from Bola Ogunwuyi, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.

Sanger's record now sits at 5-2. As for Van Alstyne, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-4.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Sanger is set to face off against their familiar foe Krum at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. That game will pit two of the most dominant backs against one another: Jones and Will Holland. Meanwhile, Van Alstyne will take on rival Gainesville at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
