Basketball Recap: Clay Comes Up Short

Clay was the 30-28 winner over Keystone Heights when they last played one another back in December of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Clay Blue Devils took a 41-29 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Keystone Heights Indians on Friday. The Blue Devils have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the loss, Clay still got an impressive performance from Yuliana Garcia-Rodriguez, who posted nine points and three steals. Garcia-Rodriguez has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Kelsey Wyatt was another key player, putting up six points and six boards.

Keystone Heights got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Riley Shuford out in front who scored 18 points and three steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Shuford has scored at least a third of Keystone Heights' points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kadence Massey, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 18 rebounds.

Clay's defeat dropped their record down to 4-13. As for Keystone Heights, with the victory, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 4-14.

Clay didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 46-11 loss against Bishop Snyder on the 28th. Keystone Heights has also already played their next contest, a 56-20 defeat against Fort White on the 27th.
