Soccer Game Preview: Lumberton vs. Cape Fear

The Lumberton Pirates will challenge the Cape Fear Colts at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Lumberton will roll into the contest after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any goals on Wednesday, then bounced right back against Seventy-First on Friday. Lumberton was the clear victor by a 4-1 margin over Seventy-First. The victory continues a trend for Lumberton in their matchups with Seventy-First: they've now won three in a row.

Meanwhile, the match between Cape Fear and South View was close at halftime, but Cape Fear turned on the heat in the second half with three goals. Cape Fear never let South View get on the board and left with a 4-0 win on Friday. With that victory, Cape Fear brought their scoring average up to 2.6 goals per game.

They hit South View with a three-pronged attack, as the team got scores from Hannah McGill (2), Kayla Brown, and Caroline Hales.

Cape Fear is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-2-2 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 19 goals over those six contests. Lumberton's victory bumped their record up to 5-7-1.

Lumberton suffered a grim 5-0 defeat to Cape Fear in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can Lumberton avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
