Baseball Game Preview: Morse Shipbuilders vs. Mt. Ararat Eagles

Morse is 1-9 against Mt. Ararat since May of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Shipbuilders will host the Eagles at 4:00 p.m. Morse is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.4 runs per game this season.

Morse gave up the first runs on Monday, but they didn't let that get them down. They walked away with a 12-8 win over Oceanside.

The team relied heavily on Collin Verrill, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with four RBI and two runs. He has become a key player for Morse: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 0-3 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Cameron Griffee, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with four runs and one RBI.

Morse kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are 3-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Meanwhile, Mt. Ararat sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 victory over Skowhegan on Monday. Those five runs were actually the fewest the Eagles have put up all season, but given the result they're probably not too concerned.

The win made it two in a row for Mt. Ararat and bumps their season record up to 5-1. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 8 runs in those games. As for Morse, they now have a winning record of 4-3.

Morse suffered a grim 7-0 defeat to Mt. Ararat in their previous matchup back in May of 2025. Can the Shipbuilders avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
