Baseball Recap: Tampa Catholic's Loss Ends 11-Game Winning Streak at Home

Tampa Catholic fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Sickles on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Sickles Gryphons by a score of 13-12. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Crusaders, who until this matchup were averaging 2.47 runs allowed.

Jose Carrero led a balanced group of hitters, scoring two runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024. Carson Arnold was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.

Even though they lost, Tampa Catholic lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Tampa Catholic's loss ended an 11-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 12-3. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Sickles, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-3.

Looking ahead, Tampa Catholic will take on Carrollwood Day in a tournament on Monday. Tampa Catholic will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last. As for Sickles, they will be taking part in a tournament against Armwood at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Sickles is facing Armwood at the right time seeing as Armwood is stuck on a four-game losing streak.
