Basketball Game Preview: Stafford Indians vs. Riverbend Bears

The Stafford Indians will venture away from home to face off against the Riverbend Bears at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

On Tuesday, Stafford lost to Colonial Forge at home by a 59-44 margin. While losing is never fun, the Indians can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 265th, while the Eagles are ranked 88th).

Riverbend has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They were five points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 56-51 heartbreaker at the hands of Massaponax.

Stafford has traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.7 points per game. As for Riverbend, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-3.

Stafford came up short against Riverbend in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, falling 68-56. Can Stafford avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
