Baseball Recap: Southern Drops Season-High Score on Fern Creek

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Southern). They put the hurt on the Fern Creek Tigers with a sharp 19-3 win on Saturday. With that victory, the Trojans brought their scoring average up to 6.5 runs per game.

Southern got a massive performance out of Marsean Rogers, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. The dominant performance also gave Rogers a new career-high in RBI (four). Richard Hernandez was another key player, scoring four runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

Southern always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .658. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .581 or higher in three consecutive contests.

Southern is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. Fern Creek is on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-7.

Coming up, Southern will be playing at home against Pell City at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Fern Creek, they will head out to challenge Anderson at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
