Football Game Preview: PURE Academy Royals vs. Southwind Jaguars

The PURE Academy Royals will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on the Southwind Jaguars at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.

PURE Academy is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 50 points last Friday, they were much more limited against Winona on Friday. They fell 14-7 to the Tigers.

Meanwhile, Southwind strolled into their game last Friday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They were the clear victors by a 42-21 margin over Whitehaven. Considering the Jaguars have won seven matchups by more than 20 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

PURE Academy better keep an eye on Kelvin Perkins. He was instrumental in Southwind's win, rushing for 163 yards and four touchdowns on only 13 carries, while also throwing for 91 yards and a pair of TDs. Those four rushing touchdowns gave Perkins a new career-high. Quinterius Hollins was another key player, rushing for 190 yards on only 12 carries.

Southwind was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 483 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Most of the squad's points came courtesy of special teams, who contributed 28 in total. All those points came courtesy of Mouhamet Mouyabi: he added 21 points with seven field goals and another seven kicking extra points.

Southwind's win bumped their record up to 8-0. As for PURE Academy, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season.

Everything came up roses for PURE Academy against Southwind when the teams last played back in October of 2021, as the team secured a 33-0 victory. Will the Royals repeat their success, or do the Jaguars have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
