Softball Recap: Sunrise Mountain Mustangs vs. Kellis Cougars
Sunrise Mountain was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They fell 13-9 to the Kellis Cougars. Sunrise Mountain was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Kellis apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2023.
Anissa Garcia made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs while going 3-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Hailey Martinez, who scored a run while going 3-for-4.
On Kellis' side, they got a massive performance out of Giselle Ornales, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. Another player making a difference was Val Barrera, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Sunrise Mountain's defeat dropped their record down to 5-14-1. As for Kellis, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-5.
Sunrise Mountain will be playing in front of their home fans against Centennial at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. As for Kellis, they will head out on the road to face off against Sunrise Mountain at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
