Softball Recap: Waterloo Beats Belleville for Their Fifth Straight Victory

Waterloo waltzed into their matchup on Thursday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Belleville Wildcats 3-1. That's two games straight that the Pirates have won by exactly two runs.

Ally Schaumann spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up 13 Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Callie Davison, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, one triple, and one run. That triple was her first of the season. Emma Baumann was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.

Waterloo hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in five consecutive contests.

Waterloo pushed their record up to 6-3 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Belleville, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-7.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Waterloo will challenge Deerfield at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Belleville, they will venture away from home to face off against Rio at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
