Baseball Recap: Mitchell Takes a Loss

Mitchell fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Madison on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Patriots by a score of 7-6. The Mountaineers were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Patriots earlier this season, when they won 10-9.

AJ Mackey made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. He has become a key player for Mitchell: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least one home run, but 7-9 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Sam Jones, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Mitchell's defeat dropped their record down to 10-10. As for Madison, their win bumped their record up to 9-12.

Mitchell didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 12-4 victory against Avery County on the 28th. As for Madison, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 9-4 win against Owen on the 29th.
