Baseball Recap: Rich Township Comes Up Short

Rich Township lost against Thornwood back in April of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Raptors fell just short of the Thunderbirds by a score of 11-10. The game snapped a strange streak: the last four times these teams have met, it?s been the away team that?s taken home the W.

Landon Hughes was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and five unearned) runs off five hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Rich Township saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Khyre Burnette, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Burnette is becoming a predictor of the Raptors' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 5-2 (and 2-9 when he doesn't).

Rich Township's record now sits at 7-11. As for Thornwood, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 12 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season.

While Rich Township had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
