Baseball Recap: Indio's Win Ends Five-Game Losing Streak on the Road

Indio's game last Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. They walked away with an 8-4 victory over the Heritage Patriots. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Rajahs also won the last time the pair played back in March of 2016.

Jose Rodriguez made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up four earned runs off nine hits (and not a single walk). He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-4. He is becoming a predictor of Indio's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 0-4 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Indio let Jesse Arreola and Julian Mandujano run wild. Arreola got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI and one double, while Mandujano scored three runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Another player making a difference was Noah Hernandez, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

Indio's win ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-5. As for Heritage, the loss snapped their winning streak at five games and leaves them with a 5-1 record.

Coming up, Indio will venture away from home to challenge San Jacinto at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Heritage, they will be taking part in a tournament against Linfield Christian at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average, (Linfield Christian: 1.2, Heritage: 2.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.
