Recap: Everglades Gators vs. Coconut Creek Cougars
The Everglades Gators suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Thursday. They took a serious blow against Coconut Creek, falling 66-15. Everglades just can't catch a break and has now endured three losses in a row.
Coconut Creek was led to victory by Devonique Thompson and Abigail Theophile. Thompson dropped a double-double on 23 points and ten rebounds, while Theophile dropped a double-double on 21 points and 13 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Thompson pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Keisha Julot, who scored 11 points along with two blocks.
Everglades dropped their record down to 2-8 with that loss, which was their sixth straight on the road. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 19.8 points per game. As for Coconut Creek, they now have a winning record of 8-7.
Everglades won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Cardinal Gibbons at 5:30 p.m. on January 19th. Cardinal Gibbons presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Everglades in Florida (Cardinal Gibbons is ranked 40th, while Everglades is ranked 521st). As for Coconut Creek, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Coral Springs Charter at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
