Softball Recap: Lakeland Hawks vs. Lewiston Bengals

Lakeland had lost seven straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 8-16 to make it eight. They fell just short of the Lewiston Bengals by a score of 12-10. Unfortunately, that's the fourth time they've come up short against the Bengals this season, with their most recent loss being a 11-6 defeat on Thursday.

Kiersten Drake and Jaiden Corbey stepped up to the plate in a big way. Drake went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Corbey went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Drake is on a roll when it comes to home runs, as she's now launched at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Raygen Dutton was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run.

As for Lewiston, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-11 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.3 runs over those games.

On Lewiston's side, Jenna Barney was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over four innings while giving up three earned (and six unearned) runs off six hits. Barney was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

In other pitching news, Hailey Robins looked comfortable as she tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits.

Back at the plate, Anna Ready and Ava Thorson did most of the damage at the plate: Ready fired off two home runs, four runs, and one stolen base while going 4-for-4, while Thorson went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and one double. Those four hits gave Ready a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Shelby Arellano, who went 1-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.

As of now, neither Lakeland nor Lewiston have any future games scheduled.
