Baseball Recap: Greenon Triumphs

Greenon's game on Wednesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They came out on top against the Houston Wildcats by a score of 7-2.

Grayson Shingler made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Greenon is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 1-7 otherwise. Shingler was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Thomas Bendall was excellent, going 1-for-3 with three RBI and one triple. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Carson Fields was another key player, getting four hits from his four at bats.

Greenon kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Greenon has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 3-8 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.8 runs over those games. As for Houston, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-7.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Greenon will face off against Tri-County North at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Knights' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Panthers have averaged an impressive 10 runs per game this season. As for Houston, they will head out on the road to challenge New Knoxville at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Rangers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.67 runs per game on average), something the Wildcats will no doubt try to take advantage of.
