Recap: Branford Buccaneers vs. Lafayette Hornets
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but unfortunately for the Branford Buccaneers, they weren't the ones who walked away with it. They were beaten by Lafayette 40-2 on Friday. Branford's defeat signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.
Thomas Sikes threw for 123 yards on 12 of 37 attempts. Austin Malaguti was his top target, picking up 77 receiving yards.
Leading Lafayette to victory were Jordan Murphy and Tywan K williamson. Murphy picked up 112 receiving yards and two touchdowns, while K williamson threw for 227 yards and three touchdowns on only 13 passes. Murphy was no stranger to the big play, cutting upfield for a catch that went for 69 yards.
Branford's defeat dropped their record down to 7-3. As for Lafayette, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 7-5 record this season.
Branford does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Lafayette will head out on the road to face off against Madison County at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Madison County presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Lafayette in Florida (Madison County is ranked 62nd, while Lafayette is ranked 286th).
