Basketball Recap: Freeport Comes Up Short

Freeport suffered their closest loss since December 20, 2024 on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Crestview Bulldogs by a score of 45-43. Freeport's defeat continues a trend for the squad, making it four in a row.

When it comes to explaining why Freeport lost, don't look at Emma Ludwig. Despite the final result, she went 6 for 15 en route to 21 points and five steals. That's the most steals Ludwig has posted since back in January of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jasmine Miles, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten boards.

Even though they lost, Freeport smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. This was only their 12th loss (out of 18 games) when they hit their own glass that hard.

Crestview got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Natalie Toney out in front who went 11 of 27 on her way to 20 points and six rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Toney has scored at least a third of Crestview's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Madyson Hankerson, who posted eight points and six steals.

Freeport's loss dropped their record down to 7-16. As for Crestview, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-8 record this season.

Freeport will host Ponce De Leon at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Crestview, they will venture away from home to take on Pace at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Pace has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the match with three straight defeats, while Crestview will come in with four straight wins.
