Valley View has gone a perfect 4-0 against Chaparral recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Eagles will venture away from home to challenge the Pumas at 3:15 p.m. Valley View will come into the matchup with an undefeated record on the line.
Valley View came out on top against Rancho Cucamonga on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive eight-run seventh inning. The Eagles put the hurt on the Cougars with a sharp 11-2 win. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won seven contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Bella Hernandez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on five hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Miranda Maese was incredible, going 2-for-4 with two doubles, one stolen base, and two RBI. Isabella Miller was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.
Valley View was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .304 or higher in five consecutive games.
Meanwhile, while it was Chaparral who put the first runs on the board on Monday, it was Lakeside who put up more. The Pumas fell just short of the Lancers by a score of 14-12. The loss put an end to the Pumas' undefeated start to the season.
Keira Beierly (University Of Pittsbu and Macee Taylor (Mt. Sac College) did some serious damage despite the final result: Beierly (University Of Pittsbu fired off two home runs, three runs, and three RBI while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances, while Taylor (Mt. Sac College) fired off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 3-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Laney Olsen, who went 3-for-5 with three doubles, two RBI, and one run.
Valley View's victory bumped their record up to 8-0. As for Chaparral, they dropped their record down to 2-1 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season.
Chaparral's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Valley View has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.5 hits per game. It's a different story for Chaparral, though, as they've been averaging 12 hits. Given Valley View's sizable advantage in that area, the Pumas will need to find a way to close that gap.
Valley View got the 'W' when the teams last played back in March of 2025 against Chaparral by a conclusive 17-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
