Basketball Game Preview: Gibault Catholic Hawks vs. Roxana Shells

The Gibault Catholic Hawks will square off against the Roxana Shells at 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.

Last Saturday, Gibault Catholic lost to East Alton-Wood River at home by a 55-38 margin.

Gibault Catholic's loss came about despite a quality game from Karmon Grohmann, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 14 boards. The dominant performance gave Grohmann a new career-high in rebounds. Another player making a difference was Kamille Grohmann, who posted four points and three steals.

Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 70-21, which was the final score in Roxana's tilt against Breese Central on Monday. The Shells have struggled against the Cougars recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive lost matchup.

Gibault Catholic's defeat dropped their record down to 10-7. As for Roxana, their loss dropped their record down to 8-8.

Gibault Catholic came out on top in a nail-biter against Roxana in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, sneaking past 46-44. Will Gibault Catholic repeat their success, or does Roxana have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
