Football Game Preview: College Station Cougars vs. Lockhart Lions

The College Station Cougars will head out to take on the Lockhart Lions at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. College Station knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 31 points or more in their past four matchups -- so hopefully Lockhart likes a good challenge.

On Friday, College Station was fully in charge, breezing past Hays 52-7. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Cougars' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 142nd, while the Hawks are ranked 409th).

Trey Walton and Keaton Johnson were among the main playmakers for College Station as the former gained 109 total yards and the latter rushed for 93 yards and one score on only ten carries. Those 93 rushing yards gave Johnson a new career-high.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: College Station was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 271 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 199 rushing yards in five consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Lockhart played a tough game on Thursday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were outmatched by Weiss and fell 54-3. The defeat continues a trend for the Lions in their meetings with the Wolves: they've now lost three in a row.

Lockhart's loss dropped their record down to 1-6. As for College Station, the win got them back to even at 4-4.

Everything came up roses for College Station against Lockhart in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, as the squad secured a 56-10 victory. In that matchup, the Cougars amassed a halftime lead of 35-3, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
