Monterey hadn't done well against Watertown recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Wildcats came out on top in a nail-biter against the Purple Tigers, sneaking past 4-2. This was a revenge game for the Wildcats: when they faced off against the Purple Tigers back in March, they had to take a 5-3 defeat.

The team relied heavily on Lawson Cantrell, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. That triple marked the first that he hit this season.

Monterey has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-10 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Watertown, their loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 9-1 and their overall record down to 17-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Monterey will take on Smith County at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Watertown, they will square off against Portland at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
