Baseball Recap: Magdalena Finds Playoff Glory Versus Grady

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Magdalena had no problem doing just that on Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-5 win over the Grady Bronchos. The victory continues a trend for the Steers in their matchups with the Bronchos: they've now won five in a row.

Josiah Candelaria spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up ten Ks.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Javen Tafoya, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Joseph Zamora was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one double.

Magdalena pushed their record up to 19-3 with the win, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Grady, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-9 record this season.

Magdalena has already played their next game, a 7-3 win against Gateway Christian on the 16th. Grady does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
