Volleyball Recap: Newport Central Catholic Takes a Loss

Newport Central Catholic was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a 2-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Scott County Cardinals. The Thoroughbreds were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cardinals apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in September of 2017.

Newport Central Catholic's offense was headlined by Maura Franzen and Isabella Schaber, who picked up three kills apiece. They were helped by Kolbey Kohrs and Charlotte Stevie, who contributed four assists each. Kohrs was also solid from the service line: she led the team with two aces.

Newport Central Catholic now has a losing record of 10-11. As for Scott County, their victory bumped their record up to 10-8.

Looking ahead, Newport Central Catholic will host Grant County at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Scott County, they will venture away from home to take on Bryan Station at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
