Baseball Game Preview: Marian Catholic Spartans vs. Saint Viator Lions

The Marian Catholic Spartans will head out on the road to take on the Saint Viator Lions at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Marian Catholic has given up an average of 7.3 runs per game this season, but Saturday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

On Friday, Marian Catholic came up short against Manteno and fell 12-7. The Spartans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Jazarris Mackmore made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two runs and one double. Marian Catholic is 3-1 when Mackmore posts two or more runs, but 7-15 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Jonathan Trotter, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Saint Viator not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 12th (when they won 8-1). Everything went their way against St. Patrick as they made off with an 8-2 victory.

Hunter Mills spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on six hits and racked up seven Ks. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Brandon Thomsen was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April. Brock Harer also deserves some recognition as he launched his first home run of the season.

Saint Viator lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Saint Viator's record is now 10-12. As for Marian Catholic, their loss dropped their record down to 10-16.

Marian Catholic suffered a grim 7-1 defeat to Saint Viator in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Spartans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
