Soccer Game Preview: Worcester Academy vs. Avon Old Farms

The Worcester Academy Hilltoppers will head out on the road to challenge the Avon Old Farms Beavers at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. Worcester Academy's offense has struggled lately (the team hasn't scored more than a single goal for five straight games), a trend the team is no doubt ready to end.

Wednesday just wasn't the day for Worcester Academy's offense. They fell just short of Loomis Chaffee School by a score of 1-0 on Wednesday. While losing is never fun, Worcester Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' soccer rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 65th in Massachusetts, while Loomis Chaffee School are ranked fifth in Connecticut).

Meanwhile, Avon Old Farms waltzed into their matchup on Wednesday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They came within a single goal of losing the streak, but they secured a 1-0 W against the Bearcats. Avon Old Farms wouldn't have won without SPENCER ABBOTT, who scored the game-winner.

Worcester Academy's loss dropped their record down to 0-6. As for Avon Old Farms, their victory bumped their record up to 6-1-1.

Worcester Academy beat Avon Old Farms 2-0 in their previous matchup back in October of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Hilltoppers since the team won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
