Softball Game Preview: Wakeland Wolverines vs. Highland Park Scots

The Wakeland Wolverines will face off against the Highland Park Scots at 6:45 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.

Wakeland is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Newman Smith a 16-0 shutout on Tuesday. Considering the Wolverines have won nine matches by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Jordan Mcnees looked comfortable as she struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). That's the first time she hasn't allowed a single hit since back in March of 2024.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Lauren McIllwain, who fired off two home runs, seven RBI, and three runs while going 3-for-3. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. Claire Schreiner was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.

Wakeland always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .679. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in four consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Highland Park had to endure a seven-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They put the hurt on Turner with a sharp 9-3 victory on Tuesday. The Scots not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since February 14th.

Wakeland's win bumped their record up to 11-3. As for Highland Park, their victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 4-8.
