Softball Recap: Marquette's Run of Seven Straight Victories Now Over

Marquette dropped their record down to 26-7 on Friday, which also ended the team's seven-game streak of wins. They took a 6-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Serena Huskers. The Crusaders were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Huskers earlier this season, when they won 13-3.

Marquette saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kelsey Cuchra, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI.

As for Serena, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 16 of their last 17 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 27-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games.

On Serena's side, Maddie Glade spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on eight hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jenna Setchell, who went 2-for-4 with two triples, three RBI, and one run. Those two triples gave her a new career-high. RayElle Brennan was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

Marquette does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Serena, they will square off against LeRoy at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Panthers will roll in looking for their seventh straight win, something the Huskers surely won't give up without a fight.
