Softball Recap: Capitan Triumphs

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Capitan ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Lordsburg Mavericks 7-6. That's the third time they've managed to beat them this season, with their most recent win being a 8-4 victory on Thursday.

Capitan got a great performance from Faith Roper as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 12 over seven innings pitched. Roper has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 15 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Reyanne Harris, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Kaylynn Dominguez also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

The win made it two in a row for Capitan and bumps their season record up to 10-8. As for Lordsburg, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 14-4.

Capitan has already played their next contest, a 10-0 victory against Mora on the 7th. As for Lordsburg, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 12-11 loss against Hozho Academy on the 7th.
