It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Village Christian had no problem doing just that on Friday. They blew past the Covina Colts 64-34. The high-scoring effort was just what the Crusaders needed considering they were shutout in their previous matchup.

Everson Mathis was his usual excellent self, throwing for 167 yards and three touchdowns on only 15 passes, while also rushing for 47 yards and a touchdown.

Village Christian was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 372 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since the start of last season.

Village Christian wouldn't let Covina keep a hold of the ball as they managed to force two fumbles. Village Christian can thank Tyler Yuster and Nathan Peraza for forcing both of them. Eddie Azarian was another major factor on D, picking up a sack and making six total tackles (3.0 for loss).

When it comes to explaining why Covina lost, don't look at Jacob Duronslet. Despite the final result, he rushed for 150 yards and two touchdowns on only 15 carries, and also threw for 272 yards and two touchdowns. Those 150 rushing yards gave Duronslet a new career-high. 117 of Duronslet's passing yards were hauled in by Matthew Olivas Jr, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.

Village Christian's win bumped their record up to 5-6. As for Covina, their loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-3.

Village Christian wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next match, a 19-17 defeat against Woodrow Wilson on the 15th. Covina does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
