Softball Recap: Ryan Comes Up Short

Ryan suffered their closest defeat since April 19, 2024 on Friday. They fell just short of the Argyle Eagles by a score of 4-2. The Raiders have struggled against the Eagles recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost meeting.

Olivia Buettner was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. Buettner was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Kendall Whitehill made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high.

Ryan's loss dropped their record down to 11-5. As for Argyle, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-10.

Looking ahead, Ryan will square off against Denton at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Ryan is facing Denton at the right time seeing as Denton is stuck on a seven-game losing streak. As for Argyle, it'll be a Battle of the Birds when Argyle Eagles take on Birdville Hawks at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Birdville will roll in looking for their 15th straight win, something Argyle surely won't give up without a fight.
