Softball Game Preview: Head-Royce Jayhawks vs. Valley Vikings

The Head-Royce Jayhawks will take on the Valley Vikings at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Head-Royce will be strutting in after a win while Valley will be coming in after a loss.

While Head-Royce didn't have the best season last year (they finished 5-10), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They walked away with a 6-1 victory over San Domenico on Thursday. The six-run effort marked the Jayhawks' lowest-scoring matchup of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Avery Rose spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on two hits and racked up 14 Ks.

At the plate, Juno Yu was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Cam Jonas, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Valley lost 33-12 to Grant last Friday. The Vikings haven't had much luck with the Pacers recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.

Valley got a massive performance out of E'Lonni Wright, who went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Mariah Abina-Price was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.

Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Head-Royce, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-1.
