Baseball Recap: Perryton Triumphs

It may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Perryton ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They skirted past the Hereford Whitefaces 2-1. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last seven times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Isaac Chavira spent all nine innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up nine Ks. Perryton is undefeated when Chavira allows two or fewer earned runs, but 5-15 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Jaxten Castanon was incredible, going 3-for-5 with one home run. He is becoming a predictor of Perryton's success: when he posts at least three hits the team is 4-1 (and 4-14 when he doesn't).

With the victory, Perryton broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 8-15. As for Hereford, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 14-10-1 record this season.

Perryton will square off against Borger at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. The Rangers are facing the Bulldogs at the right time seeing as the Bulldogs are stuck on a 12-game losing streak. As for Hereford, they will host Randall at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
