League recap: Valley rolls against Rio Grande

Valley took down Rio Grande 72-19 last week, the largest margin of any game.

The Vikings led 5A District 5 in scoring this week after putting up 72 points on the Ravens.

Jesus "Ricci" Alvidrez was a beast in the backfield as Atrisco Heritage Academy beat Highland.

Alvidrez was a passing and rushing force as the Jaguars bested the Hornets. Alvidrez's key target this week was Martin Ortiz, who caught 4 passes for 81 yards.

Aaron Bean and Alvidrez gave Atrisco Heritage Academy a balanced attack in passing and rushing last week. Bean threw for 129 yards and 2 touchdowns, while Alvidrez ran for 286 yards. Bean also contributed to the rushing game with 136 yards on the ground.

Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, Valley's Bo Coleman and Aaron Molina have proven to be a lethal combination. 6-0 quarterback Coleman has thrown for 1,612 yards this season, while Molina has 25 catches for 663 yards. Alvidrez from Coach Johnson's team leads the league in rushing with 1,598 yards.

West Mesa's Jaemin Ramirez needs only 15 yards against the Jaguars next week to surpass 1,000 rushing yards for the season. In 127 carries Ramirez has accumulated 985 yard this year.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when Atrisco Heritage Academy takes on the Mustangs. As it stands, the Jaguars are in second, while West Mesa is in third.

The league will see a high scoring game when Atrisco Heritage Academy and Ron McMath's team face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Jaguars comes in having scored 340 this season, while the Mustangs have scored 157. Atrisco Heritage Academy scored 61 points last week as it topped Highland.

Rio Grande made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 10,251 from 10,480. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 72-19 victory over Jim Danner's team last week.
