Baseball Recap: Franklin Academy Comes Up Short

If Franklin Academy was riding high fresh off their 21-0 takedown of Triangle Math & Science Academy on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Patriots lost 14-6 to the Ravenscroft Ravens on Tuesday.

Josh Merson made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Franklin Academy's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 4-1 (and 4-10 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Jacob Barnes, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

Franklin Academy has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-11 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.5 runs over those games. As for Ravenscroft, their win bumped their record up to 11-7.

Looking ahead, Franklin Academy will head out to challenge NCSSM: Durham at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Ravenscroft, they will be playing at home against Raleigh HomeSchool at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Hawks have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.24 runs per game on average), something the Ravens will no doubt try to take advantage of.
