Basketball Game Preview: Tulelake Honkers vs. Modoc Braves

Tulelake is 1-9 against Modoc since December of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. Having just played yesterday, the Honkers will head out on the road to face off against the Braves at 5:40 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Tulelake's tournament run continued when they took on Portola on Friday. The Honkers took a 65-60 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Tigers.

Meanwhile, Modoc made easy work of Fall River on Friday and carried off a 58-35 win. With the Braves ahead 35-12 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.

Modoc's win came from a few key players Tulelake will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Colin Jeffers, who shot 67% from the field on his way to 19 points and five assists. Those 67% field goal percentage gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Nash McCulley, who almost dropped a double-double with nine points and ten boards.

Modoc has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a massive bump to their 5-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.8 points over those games. As for Tulelake, their loss dropped their record down to 8-4.

Tulelake was dealt a bruising 66-33 defeat at the hands of Modoc in their previous meeting last Saturday. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Jeffers, who went 7-for-12 to rack up 19 points along with six steals and five assists. Now that the Honkers know the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
