Baseball Game Preview: Hudson Cobras vs. Weeki Wachee Hornets

The Hudson Cobras will take on the Weeki Wachee Hornets at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Hudson got their first taste of in-conference action on Monday and they started things off strong. They put the hurt on Gulf with a sharp 9-2 victory. The win continues a trend for the Cobras in their matchups with the Buccaneers: they've now won nine in a row.

Aiden Shuster made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Shuster was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

In other pitching news, Hudson got a great performance from Justin Mitchell as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over 5.2 innings pitched.

Back at the plate, Ryder Tysko was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing five bases while going 2-for-2. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Caden Gillespie, who scored two runs and stole three bases while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Weeki Wachee owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Tuesday. They walked away with a 3-0 victory over Crystal River.

The team relied heavily on Jack Strong, who went 3-for-4 with one double and one RBI. That double marked the first that he hit this season. Another player making a difference was Christian Zahora, who scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Weeki Wachee pushed their record up to 11-9 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.2 runs over those games. As for Hudson, their win bumped their record up to 6-11.

Hudson beat Weeki Wachee 5-0 when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Will the Cobras repeat their success, or do the Hornets have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
