Baseball Recap: Murphysboro Victorious

Murphysboro came out on top against Centralia on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run third inning. The Red Devils had just enough and edged out the Orphans 7-6. That's two games straight that the Red Devils have won by just one run.

Murphysboro got a massive performance out of Mason Bastien, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, one stolen base, and one double. Bastien has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times he's played. Reece Mileur also deserves some recognition as he launched his first home run of the season.

Murphysboro's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-8. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Centralia, the loss snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 8-7 record.

Looking ahead, Murphysboro will be playing in front of their home fans against Herrin at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
