Softball Recap: Brooklyn Comes Up Short

Brooklyn extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 16 on Monday, dropping them down to 0-8. They came up short against the Independence Blue Devils, falling 24-0. The Hurricanes were not able to make up for their loss to the Blue Devils from their previous meeting back in May of 2025.

As for Independence, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 7-3. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

For Independence's part, Lila Manfredonia made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 15 over five innings pitched. Manfredonia has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one hit in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 4-for-5 with six RBI, four runs, and two doubles. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2025.

In other batting news, Addison Kolar was incredible, going a perfect 5-for-5 with nine RBI, three runs, and three doubles. Brooke Vollman was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Brooklyn will welcome Fairview at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Independence, they will take on Medina Christian Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Knights have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 16.71 runs per game on average), something the Blue Devils will no doubt try to take advantage of.
