Volleyball Recap: Longmeadow Continues Road Dominance on Thursday

Longmeadow proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by three) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 victory over the East Longmeadow Spartans. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Lancers have posted since October 26, 2024.

Longmeadow wouldn't go down easily and took East Longmeadow into a fifth set where they got it done with a seven-point win. The final score came out to 25-18, 19-25, 26-28, 25-17, 15-8.

Longmeadow was led to victory by Tess Tonsing and Angela Humble. Tonsing had nine digs and eight aces, while Humble had 25 digs, 18 kills, and two aces. Humble has been hot for a while, having posted six or more kills the last 38 times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Annie Kro, who had 11 digs and two aces.

They weren't the only good servers: Longmeadow was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 18 aces. They served six more aces than East Longmeadow's also-impressive total of 12.

Longmeadow pushed their record up to 16-2 with the victory, which was their eighth straight on the road. As for East Longmeadow, their defeat ended an eight-match streak of wins at home and dropped them to 15-3.

Longmeadow and East Longmeadow should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Massachusetts Rankings. The Lancers (ranked fourth) will meet Putnam Vo-Tech (ranked 108th) at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, East Longmeadow will challenge Ludlow at 6:00 p.m. on Monday with a big rank advantage (41 vs. 171).
