Basketball Recap: Ron Brown Comes Up Short

On Monday, Ron Brown faced Cardozo in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Ron Brown Monarchs were dealt a 70-35 defeat at the hands of the Cardozo Clerks. The Monarchs were not able to make up for their loss to the Clerks from their previous meeting back in February of 2024.

Ron Brown lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Arrington Smith, who posted 16 points. Another player making a difference was Lenoxx Walker, who earned 13 points and three steals.

Cardozo's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Cameron Young, who made all 5 shots he took to post 12 points and three steals. Young is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last 23 games he's played dating back to last season. The team also got some help courtesy of Trey Green, who put up ten points and four steals.

Ron Brown's defeat dropped their record down to 9-7. As for Cardozo, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 14-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Ron Brown will square off against Anacostia at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Ron Brown is facing Anacostia at the right time seeing as Anacostia is stuck on a seven-game losing streak. As for Cardozo, they will challenge Coolidge at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. One thing working in Cardozo's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.
