Baseball Recap: New Athens Wins Going Away Against Dupo

New Athens barely beat Dupo the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Yellow Jackets put the hurt on the Tigers with a sharp 13-1 victory on Tuesday. The Yellow Jackets haven't had any issues with the Tigers recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.

Carson Lauer was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit (and only one walk). Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run.

In other batting news, New Athens got a massive performance out of Brodie Sieber, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one home run and three runs. That's the most runs Sieber has posted since back in March. Brett Miller was another key player, going 1-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.

New Athens always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .519. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Dupo only posted an OBP of .118.

New Athens pushed their record up to 8-5 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games. As for Dupo, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-10.

Looking ahead, New Athens will challenge Chester at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Dupo, they will face off against Wesclin at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
